On This Day – Privacy Policy

Last updated: 6 October 2026

On This Day shows you the photos and videos you took on this date in earlier years, and helps you keep or delete them. It is made by Frederik Rømming Pedersen, an independent designer.

The short version

Your photos stay on your iPhone. There is no account, no tracking, no ads and no server.

Your photos and videos

The app reads your photo library on your iPhone, with your permission, to find the photos taken on each date. They are never uploaded or copied anywhere. When you delete photos, iOS asks you to confirm, and they go to "Recently Deleted" in the Photos app for 30 days.

Place names

To show where a photo was taken (for example "Aarhus, Denmark"), the app sends that photo's location coordinates to Apple Maps, which returns the place name. Only the coordinates are sent, never the photo. Apple handles this under its own privacy policy. The result is stored only on your phone.

Sharing

When you share a photo, the app removes its location and other hidden details first. You choose who receives it in the iOS share sheet.

Notifications

The morning reminder is created on your phone. No push server is involved.

What's stored on your phone

Your settings and how far you've got in each day's photos. This is deleted when you delete the app.

What we collect

Nothing. No analytics, no tracking, no data sold or shared with anyone.

Beta testing

If you test the app through TestFlight, Apple may share crash reports and any feedback you choose to send with the developer, under Apple's TestFlight terms.

Children

The app is not made for children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect anything from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
